RETAIL+CAFE CONCEPT

The best way to introduce/sell consumer electronics is to let people ‘try’ the products in real-life scenarios. In a ‘café’ store, products (not stringed but with EAS alarm) are equipped at each table for trial in real usages. It’s not a temple to display products like Apple, but a cozy environment to experience the products. If people are interested, they can inquire and buy at a counter next to coffee bar. Café also provides a natural incentive for daily visit too.

 

Meanwhile, the shop is a full-functioning café serving good coffee. Versus Starbucks, it is fused and optimized with gadgets to enhance the coffee moment. It’s a next-gen café of the Internet era.

DIVERSIFIED SHOP DESIGN

Café + Retail fusion is thorough from interior design, operation to marketing:

(2)  Sales Counter + Coffee Bar

(3)  Natural techie lifestyle

 

As for design, the shops will be versatile, instead of a standardized chain. The shops are to delicately blend in and enrich the city ambience. They are lively place to relax in a tech-empowered lifestyle.

 

Amid diversity, they’re aligned by a crossover style of natural (beige, wood, raw) and modern (b & w, metallic, glassy) touch.

MASTERMIND A NEW MALL

This project is to conceive a positioning strategy and spatial design for a new shopping mall. Malls in Hong Kong are characterized by being too standardized and commercialized. Our concept is to re-imagine a normal commercial space into a ‘European-style shop street’, which is intimate, lively, and versatile. It is a different mall with a focus on people and quality of life.

 

Standardized glass shop front is replaced by shops with diversified decorative designs and characters. Each shop is crowned with a canopy, which also comes in diversified colors and styles. Exterior of the mall is decorated with natural materials (e.g. wood, grass wall, etc.) and street furniture. And there is extensive greenery. The mall will also run a bicycle-rental system.

 

We name the mall 'Parcwalk’. A visit is like ‘a relaxed walk in the park’. Mall is not just a routine space to shop and dine. It can be a place to refresh and explore. It can be full of variety and serendipity. It can be human and lively, while there is still plenty to consume. Hong Kong is a compact and monotonous place. Parcwalk offers an alternative realm to enjoy life, while it is highly accessible from everywhere via MTR.

 

The concept of Parcwalk is summarized by the slogan: ‘Shop Different . Next Door’.

ALL-WEATHER SHOP STREET

The concept of versatile shop street (i.e. diversified shop fronts, canopies, natural materials, greenery, and street furniture) is also applied to interior of the mall.

 

The liveliness of shop street is combined with the comfortable and all-weather environment of a mall.

SHOP FRONT TEMPLATE

Our plan is to make the mall a collage of shops with diversified characters, creating a versatile shop street scene.

 

Yet conventional and convenient choice of shop front in malls is big glass window and a logo.

 

To facilitate the concept of versatile shops, we design a ‘Shop Front Template’, to be provided by the mall to tenants.

 

The template is flexible to change colors, materials and decorative details. Tenants can build upon to make a shop front with character in a cost-effective manner.

BRAND RESTAURANTS IN SKY

There are four luxurious restaurants on 101/F of the highest building in Hong Kong (ICC). Situated at an office building, their presence and the lobby (left) is obscure.

 

To establish prominence, we first brand the floor as a special destination: (Celestaurants: Celestial + Restaurants). Then, the office lobby is renovated into an elegant-living-room-like grand entrance. Since the restaurants are all oriental, the lobby design adopts Eastern elements (Byōbu 屏風, bamboo, fish tank, wood, gold), matched with contemporary Western (glass, projection images, chandelier, tube hi-fi).

REVITALIZE INDUSTRIAL BLDG

This project is to re-imagine the positioning and spatial design of an old factory building in Kwai Fong.

 

Kwai Fong is an aged district, yet accessible via MTR. We conceive the new property as a refreshing spot for a large population in West Kln. Versus the crowded living environment, the spot is like an ‘Oasis of Living’ and it's named the ‘Oasure’ (oasis + leisure).

 

The complex will house café, book store, spa, restaurant and any other shop which can facilitate a refreshing lifestyle.

 

We propose a renovation of the building commensurate with the theme of Oasis. The design concept is ‘water & greenery’ (e.g. glass spiral staircase with a cylindrical aquarium inside, roof-top garden, grass wall, greenhouse restaurant, etc.).
